ARTWORK ID: 7035
CATEGORY: Works on Paper
ARTIST STATEMENT:
In completing my studies, I have explored the effect of land clearing on the Southwest Australian landscape. Prior to colonisation, a vast forest existed from Lancelin to Albany consisting of unique varieties of Tuart, Marri, Karri, Tingle, Jarrah, Banksia and She-oak found nowhere else on Earth. Sadly only 3% of this forest remains. Renowned botanist Diana Beresford-Kroeger has proposed that if every person on the planet were to plant one native tree a year for six years, we would halt the destruction caused by land clearing and the resulting climate crisis. The answer is in our hands.
