Fresh Fill' reflects the quiet, often unseen rhythms of life within the pastoral industry, where care is expressed through routine, and responsibility is grounded in meeting the basic needs of the animals. Here, cattle gather to drink from a freshly scrubbed trough, a simple but essential task during the heat of summer. Despite being minimally handled across large acreages, there is an unspoken trust in this moment as they approach the clean water as it refills.
Created in pastel over an ink background, the piece embraces contrast in both process and feeling. The looseness of the ink is allowed to remain visible in the sky and trough, echoing the fluidity and openness of the landscape, while the pastel brings forward the softness, presence, and individuality of the cattle.
