This is a sensitive and deftly painted portrait, that despite its intimate size, allows for a bigger reading of the subject. The layered technique of transparent washes with beautifully subtle colour, holds our attention for a long time and providing insight into the personality of the sitter.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I met Maggie Munda when I was painting a mural for her local church in South Hedland. A precious friendship formed between us as Maggie helped paint the mural, and I visited her at her nursing home. She shared with me her longing to be in Derby with her family, who she missed and cared for. This portrait depicts Maggie in her season of waiting, as she looks ahead holding on to the hope of home.
