6004, Noticing The Years In Bloom, Raelene Postans

$2,600.00

ARTWORK ID: 6004

CATEGORY: Portraits (a model release form from the subject must be supplied)

ARTIST STATEMENT:

As I near another aging milestone, I explore a moment of self-observation where aging is met with quiet reflection, rather than resistance. In this self-portrait, I wanted to capture a pause…that instinctive touch to the face when you notice the little changes time has left behind, not with worry or sadness, but with curiosity.

The flowers below are both blooming and beginning to wilt. They're there to reflect the natural rhythm of nature and life, where beauty and decline go hand in hand. They remind me that everything moves through cycles, and that change and aging are simply privileges of being alive.

The painting also hints at the way we often want to picture ourselves, a little softer, a little younger, maybe a bit more idealised than what we see in the mirror. But I believe there's beauty in every stage of life, even if it looks different to what we once saw or imagined.

Through this work, I'm inviting viewers to see aging not as something to hide, but something to notice and embrace. It's where beauty, growth, vulnerability and decline exist together and are all just as meaningful.
