ARTIST STATEMENT:
This painting began as a photograph and became something more personal as it was a return.
After time away, coming back to the Pilbara felt like exhaling. The vastness, the silence, the way the red of the rocks sit so boldly against the push of green spinifex after rain.
I wanted to capture that contrast. The ancient weight of the rock formations against the softness of the grass. This place has a freedom to it that is hard to explain and harder to leave.
