ARTIST STATEMENT:

First Light is a homage to the land's holiness and my time as an artist in residence at Cossack. Every morning, I would go and see the mangroves and where the tide was. I loved dawn because it was like seeing the scene for the first time each day. Noting the majesty of nature was a way I paid my respects to the land.

As the tides varied each day, it was exciting to see what was happening with the water and how different the landscape looked. Also, the colours differed depending on the time of the day, so I was always in awe.
