CATEGORY: Pilbara Landscape
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Artist Statement: Fractured Silence
Fractured Silence marks a definitive evolution in the Translucent Dissonance (TD) style, exploring the tension between the enduring geological memory of the Pilbara and the synthetic structures of human observation. Inspired by the subterranean caverns and narrow gorges of North West Western Australia, the work draws the viewer into a dynamic, immersive landscape where ancient rock formations meet the unrest of liquid reflections.
The composition utilizes a fast-drying oil process to create a "geometric intrusion" - a series of vertical translucent glazes that slice across a hyper-detailed, tactile base. This visual "jostle" reflects the artist's perspective as an intrusive guest on the land, where the heavy, stratified patterns of the stone are interrupted by the play of light and shadow filtering through artificial prisms.
Through the interplay of warm ochres and cool mineral tones, Fractured Silence captures a landscape in symbiosis - both ancient and alive - forcing a dialogue between natural permanence and the constructed abstraction of the modern world.
