Walga-Walga Aarli (Bluenose Salmon Run)

During the Barrgana (cold season) the Walga-Walga (salmon) are fat and running.

Yawuru people of Rubibi (Broome) have a long and rich tradition of fishing the Aarli (salmon run). This painting is a depiction of the cultural and spiritual link Yawuru people have to the land and sea, and how we have relied on this knowledge to thrive on country for thousands of years. "Walga-Walga running, keeps our spirts high" - The Pigram Brothers.
