ARTIST STATEMENT:

I want art to be beautiful, contemplative, and above all, interesting.

The parks and gardens of Perth are great locations to study ducks. I draw and photograph them, in order to create compositions for paintings. These begin as studies on paper that then later may become the basis for a painting on canvas. Wild ducks make a great muse for gentle social commentary.

Most days I include a walk-up Rokeby Road (a popular shopping precinct), in Subiaco, where I live. The setting for this piece was a rainy day in Rokeby Road.

The Pacific Black Duck was taken from a visit to Queens Gardens (at the eastern end of Perth CBD).

I am inspired by Chagall's work, honouring his village. I also appreciate a comment that Whistler's work, appeared as if his paint was breathed on to the canvas. (I have tried to follow in their footsteps.)
