3082, Wake up, Celeste Stephens

$550.00

ARTWORK ID: 3082

CATEGORY: Open Theme

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My artwork is an attempt to reflect how I feel in today's socio-political environment. Some days feel like we are making incremental change towards reducing poverty, inequality and discrimination while simultaneously addressing global issues such as climate change, maintaining positive international relations and advancing technology in a safe and considered way. Other days feel like the fabric of society is being unpicked multiple stitches at a time as we hurtle towards global unrest through the purposeful dismantling of democratic institutions and blind devotion to power. When power, money and hedonistic pleasures come at the cost of humanity, the environment and community I fear we will lose all that we have overcome. We are standing on the precipice and time is running out. One misstep and we could falter one way or the other. The most agonising part for me? It feels completely out of my control. The only option is dig deep into our well of hope and wake up to what is happening around us. Bring the one thing that binds us, back into the conversation; our humanity.

MEDIUM: Acrylic on canvas

ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 600mm x 747mm

WEIGHT (approx): 1kg
