3043, Parallel Universes, Iris Finn
ARTWORK ID: 3043
CATEGORY: Open Theme
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The theme of my painting is the transformation of my kitchen sink into a place of wonder and imagination.
I have depicted the kitchen sink area and bottles a monochrome palette suggesting the ordinary and the mundane daily task of washing up. The abstract space in the background is intended to evoke the lovely thoughts and ideas that I often have while doing this routine task. I have learnt over the years to choose my thoughts wisely, and now I automatically spend a lot of time enjoying my thoughts, rather than ruminating over problems that I cannot solve. I have chosen soft pastel colours to reflect this feeling, and placed the light and the ceiling fan in positions that give a bit more sense of the space the kitchen sits in. I left the back of the countertop soft so that it blurred into the day dreamy area of the painting.
I am loving working out ways to combine still life and abstract art in a single painting, reinforcing the connection or disconnection between the physical space/objects and my inner world.
MEDIUM: Acrylic on upcycled photo canvas
ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 796mm x 1205mm
WEIGHT (approx): 3.7kg
