ARTIST STATEMENT:
Simon is currently working on a a series of landscapes shaped by memory, sensation, and his experiences with the setting sun. He has travelled extensively in Australia and still finds the appeal of a beautiful sunset enough to be inspired. His paintings reimagine the vista as both presence and substance - locally recognisable silhouettes against a background kaleidoscope of the earth's reflected colours at sunset - formed through separated colour, tone, and abstraction. These immersive terrains reflect the reciprocal relationship between humans and the environment . Balancing familiarity with mystery, the work expresses the known against the human scale of the oncoming big night sky.
