3001, The air that I breathe, Karen Chappelow

$2,500.00

ARTWORK ID: 3001

CATEGORY: Open Theme

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My painting is a journey highlighting the closeness we share with our natural environment. The interaction of humans with nature is called 'biophilic'. Having a natural affinity with plants, animals and water is also biophilic.

We share some similar cellular processes and functions. One of these is cellular respiration, which occurs within the Mitochondria. I have depicted the Mitochondria as a halo. The Mitochondria present in the cells of animals and plants are the cell's powerhouse. Its function is to produce ATP/energy through aerobic respiration.

These similarities in our micro biological processes and makeup highlight our natural affinity and connectivity with nature, as we are indeed part of it.

MEDIUM: acrylic, ink and copper leaf on canvas

ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 900mm x 1000mm

WEIGHT (approx): 4kg

ARTIST LOCATION: MOONDYNE, WA
