2032, Mulla Mulla, Tina Bryce
ARTWORK ID: 2032
CATEGORY: North West Flora and Fauna
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Each year we visit the northwest, I am quietly waiting for that first glimpse of Mulla Mulla in flower. Their jaunty mauve flower spikes are as quintessentially the North of Western Australia to me, as are the wide impressive landscapes. Studying them in detail through painting, allows me to fully appreciate their intricate beauty. In this semi abstract painting I have tried to capture them as the feeling of happiness, dancing against the ochres of the land. Working with acrylic paints on a timber substrate, allows for gestural mark-making and working back into the paint layers. This way my tools mimic the movements of Mulla Mulla as they sway in the breeze.

ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 405mm x 405mm
WEIGHT (approx): 1kg
