Judge’s comments:
This textile work employed a rich and varied range of processes to capture the mosaic-like quality of the northwest landscape. It initially captures a bigger picture, but zooms in to take us closer to the complex membrane of the plants, flowers and leaf litter that rest at our feet. The kaleidoscopic use of colour and texture captured our attention in this work.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
My inspiration is to capture the rugged soul of the North West region of Western Australia, a land of ancient, exquisite beauty. Through a fusion of merino wool, cotton, threads and raw fibres on paper. I translate the region's physical presence. Intricate machine stitch traces the resilient flora and weathered landforms, bringing the vibrant colours and textures of the natural environment to life. This work explores the duality of nature: it's immense strength and fragility. Defined by the extremes of wet and dry and having survived bushfires, floods and cyclones, each layer reflects a fierce struggle for survival in an enduring, delicate landscape.
