ARTIST STATEMENT:
Nature of Time and Tide
An indelible perpetual calendar marks the seasons along the Northwest coast as the retreating moon-locked tides etch shorelines with ever changing maps directing wading birds to their feasts.
Searching memory of summers, the coastline returns with vivid clarity and the shrill of seabirds is woven deeply into that sense of place. It is where I was introduced to the parallels between my response to the creative forces of nature and a desire to capture stilled moments, with their own spiritual agency in time and space.
With oils on canvas, I endeavour to conjure the light on tidal pools, the colours, the patterns and rhythms of the season from the perspective of a nesting Oystercatcher, to evoke the ever-present pulse and spirit of the Pilbara.
