2015, Meanderings, Monty Montgomery
ARTWORK ID: 2015
CATEGORY: North West Flora and Fauna
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My art is inspired by the natural beauty of the Pilbara, its people, places and history. This subject was worked from sketched studies and photographs taken near the Fortescue River rail access. I spent two days working from my own make-shift artist camp as part of my appointment as Artist in Residence for Cossack Art Awards in 2018. This particular morning the wattles (Acacia pyrifolia, 'Ranji Bush'), were newly in bud and the vista was radiant in morning light, freckled with birdsong or Zebra Finches. I followed the dirt track beside the rail line, my gaze directed through a camera lens. The tire tracks mark a formidable presence of 4WDs that roam this terrain. Flora with fauna.
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas
ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 660mm x 1020mm
WEIGHT (approx): 4kg
ARTIST LOCATION: RIVERTON, WA
