People’s Choice and Children’s Art Awards winners announced
Christine Blowfield’s stunning depiction of the Pilbara landscape has taken out the Cossack Art Awards People’s Choice crown.
Announced on 10 August during the Children’s Art Day, the work titled Cast of Light -- View from Mount Sheila won the People’s Choice award sponsored by Realmark.
The work, which also won the Pilbara Landscape category, was described by judges as masterfully capturing the changing light of the low laying sun on this unique place.
Meanwhile, in the Children’s Art Awards, Audrey Wilkinson was named overall winner for her work A Dark World.
Created by one of the youngest artists in the competition, Judges Dunnart’s Donna Wilkinson and Cossack Artist in Residence Monique Ross described the piece as ‘drawing them in immediately through its powerful use of dark tones, layering and texture.
“It reveals a stirring depth of thought and a sensitivity that stayed with us long after viewing,” they said.
“We were deeply impressed by the Artist creativity and confidence, and hope this recognition encourages them to keep creating. There is so much promise and potential in their work.”
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said all of the works showed a high level of skill and creativity.
“I’d like to congratulate the People’s Choice winner Christine Blowfield, our Children’s overall winner Audrey Wilkinson as well as our age category winners and Highly Commended artists in the Children’s Art Awards,” Cr Scott said.
“These awards continue to have high-quality artworks from across a vast range of ages showing how strong our arts scene remains for emerging creators.
“Thank you to everyone who has entered and participated in this year’s Cossack Art Awards.”
People’s Choice winner Ms Blowfield said to have the Public choose her was humbling.
“To capture a moment in a landscape of such beauty is such a privilege, but to then to be awarded such high accolades is an absolute honour. The Pilbara is truly magnificent,” Ms Blowfield said.
“Thank you to the wonderful Cossack Art Award team, you truly do produce the most Unique Regional Art Award in the Country!”
The Cossack Art Awards is proudly presented by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto.
