Cossack Art Awards entries set to open 3 March

Artists young and old are encouraged to enter their works into the prestigious Cossack Art Awards.

The Cossack Art Awards is the premier arts and cultural event in the Pilbara and is recognised as a nationally significant art prize.

Entries for the prestigious event open 10am 3 March, closing 4pm 28 April unless the maximum of 300 submissions are reached prior.

This year there are 10 award categories with a total prize pool of $97,000, with categories including Best Overall Artwork, Best Artwork by a Pilbara Artist and the People’s Choice.

Winners will be announced at the invitation only Gala Awards night which will be held on 18 July.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott called on artists from across Australia to bring their creativity to the Pilbara and take part in this year’s Cossack Art Awards.

“The Cossack Art Awards are the most significant arts and cultural events in our region and continue to hold a respected place within Australia’s broader arts community,” Mayor Scott said.

“Each year, we are inspired by the diversity, quality and creativity of the entries we receive. I encourage local artists, as well as artists from across the country, to take part and share their work.

“The Cossack Art Awards offer a vibrant and eclectic celebration of artistic expression, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the outstanding submissions this year.”

Rio Tinto Iron Ore Rail, Port and Core Services Managing Director Chris Osborn said: “The Cossack Art Awards showcase the incredible depth of talent across the Pilbara region and beyond.

“We’re delighted to once again sponsor the Best Artwork by Pilbara Artist and Best Painting by a Pilbara Indigenous Artist Awards.

“These categories help strengthen local cultural identity and pride, while supporting Indigenous artists to share and preserve cultural heritage, fostering deeper understanding and connection to Country.”

This year’s event is proudly presented by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto.
