Cossack Art Awards Public Program to celebrate artistic talent
The Cossack Art Awards return in 2025 with a full program of exhibitions, workshops and community events celebrating local and national artistic talent.
Presented by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto, the awards continue to be a key event on the regional arts calendar.
This year’s awards begin with an invite-only Preview and Gala Awards Night on 19 July, where winners will be announced across multiple categories.
The following day, the exhibition opens to the public with Art in the Park, a family-friendly day featuring live local music, children’s art activities, face painting, bouncy castles and a judge’s talk.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the event is a highlight for the region.
“The Cossack Art Awards are a great opportunity to showcase local and national artists, and to bring people together in one of the Pilbara’s most unique locations,” Cr Scott said.
“The program is diverse, inclusive and offers something for all ages.”
Throughout the exhibition period of 20 July to 10 August, a range of events and workshops will be held in Cossack, including weaving workshops with Artist in Residence Monique Ross, an astrophotography session with Suzanne Jones, Paint and Sip with Three Birds Creative, a Seniors Morning Tea, a mixed media painting with dye workshop, and a long-format surrealist painting masterclass. Families can take part in a Cossack Story Time session for young children hosted by the library.
The program also includes Dark Corners, evening performances by Ross Vegas combining storytelling, light projection and historical narratives to bring the town’s past to life.
A new addition this year is Cossack Art After Dark, a free night-time event featuring live music from Set Mo, body art performances, a silent disco and a licensed bar.
The public program and exhibition will wrap up with Fortescue Children’s Art Day, a free community event featuring children’s activities, Tiny Traders Marketstalls, food vendors and live entertainment.
The 2025 Cossack Art Awards will offer visitors the chance to engage with art in a range of formats, while enjoying the unique landscape and history of Cossack Town.
