5044, Hamersley Gorge, Roderick Sprigg

$6,000.00

ARTWORK ID: 5044

CATEGORY: Pilbara Landscape

ARTIST STATEMENT:

If the hills around Karratha, Roebourne and toward Millstream look like over sized velvet cake, this location of Hamersley Gorge reminded me of the old mud cake I found in the work fridge - a delicious mix of hidden moisture and crunchy stale exterior.

If this painting was a pub song, it might sound like the musical score of "Great Southern Land" by Icehouse.

In this struggle between the artist, the paint, and the landscape, my intention was to make the ancient cliffs appear weighty, give the water a hint of movement, and have the tree's pale bark reflect its surroundings.

MEDIUM: Oil on Canvas

ARTWORK DIMENSIONS (width x height): 1400mm x 900mm

WEIGHT (approx): 3kg

ARTIST LOCATION: KARRATHA, WA
